You will need:

  • Cardboard

  • Micador For Artists AquaPainters – Winter Collection

  • Micador For Artists PermaPainters – Heaven Spot Collection

  • Craft glue or a hot glue gun

  • Graphite pencil

  • Box cutter

  • Ruler

Step 1: Measure and cut!

Dismantle your cardboard box and measure out the pieces of your gingerbread house. You will need two front pieces, two side pieces and two roof pieces. Use a box cutter and a ruler to cut out each piece. You can also find the template used for this gingerbread house above. Scale the document to change the size, or create a house based off your own measurements.

Step 2: Draw!

Using a graphite pencil, sketch out the elements of your house. Include windows, doors, roof tiles and other decorative elements. Search up some real gingerbread houses for inspiration.

Step 3: Add white!

Trace over your pencil sketches using your AquaPainters or PermaPainters. You may need to lightly erase some of the pencil lines first so they don’t show through. The AquaPainters are great for fine details and dots, whilst the PermaPainters are perfect for filling in larger and thicker white areas. For a more vibrant white colour, apply a second layer.

Step 4: Assemble!

Time to construct your gingerbread house! Use your craft glue or hot glue gun to stick each side together. The craft glue may take longer to dry, so it’s best to lean the pieces against an object to hold them in place while drying. Attach the four sides first, then add the two roof pieces together, and attach the roof to the top of the house. As an extra element, you can also cut holes where the windows belong, cover them with tracing paper and place a fake candle or small light inside to make it look like the house is glowing!
